email

RocketReader is a speed reading software program designed to improve reading speed, comprehension, fluency and vocabulary.  This is achieved through a variety of lessons, exercises, comprehension tests and speed tests.

As with other speed reading software programs, the makers of RocketReader have designed it for users to overcome bad habits that impact reading speed and comprehension.  Two habits that decrease a person’s ability to read quickly and efficiently include sub-vocalization (the sounding out of words in your brain while reading) and regression (or re-reading – going back and reading words you have already read).  RocketReader will help the user break these habits.

RocketReader is easy to use and navigate.  Some users might find the color scheme a bit distracting, but users to have the ability to pick a solid background color that might make it easier to use.  The colorful scheme of the program might make it more appealing to a younger user.

Users can also select the version of RocketReader that best meets their needs.  The programs you can choose from include RocketReader Kids (for ages 4 to 8), RocketReader Standard or Professional, and RocketReader Vocab.

Features

In order to get the most out of the program it is important to use it every day, for training sessions of 15 to 30 minutes in length.  RocketReader offers four lesson plans based on how much time you have to work – Quick, Revisions, Detailed, and The Works.  The Quick Lesson takes about 15 minutes while The Works Lesson takes 60 minutes.  It is better for the user to have frequent short sessions with the software program than a few long sessions.

RocketReader offers a variety of lessons and exercises to help the user achieve the goal of improved reading.  There are also comprehension tests to ensure that the user’s increased speed is not compromising reading comprehension.

Another great feature of RocketReader is that the program will keep a record of your progress and improvement.  The program will suggest when it is time to take a test or move to another level.  The progress reports generated by RocketReader include information on reading speed, reading comprehension, and grade level.

Help and Support

The RocketReader website has a pretty extensive FAQ section, but these questions are more general about the product and the company than geared towards technical issues.  Users can contact the company for technical support by telephone or email.

Conclusion

RocketReader is one of the more expensive speed reading programs on the market, but the features available in the program along with the results you get make it well worth the extra money.  There is a free trial of the program available for download from the company’s website, so you can try it out before you buy it to see if RocketReader is the appropriate program for your needs.  The company does qualify the program stating that it takes at least 20 daily sessions to see any improvement in reading speed and comprehension, so a user might not see significant improvement during the free 10 day trial period.
